“There are three things we should all do every day; number one is laugh, you should laugh every day. Number two is think, you should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions move to tears. Think about it, if you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day.”
― Jimmy Valvano

If you need a pep talk today (I did), I suggest Jimmy Valvano’s speech at the 1993 ESPY awards.

There's a tomato overload in my garden right now. I certainly love a caprese, but it's fun to switch it up. I came across this recipe for tomato & eggplant gratin and had to try it out. Happy I did because it's delicious (and it takes less than 30 minutes to make).

Art I Like
Joan Brown was an American painter from San Francisco whose work can primarily be categorized as abstract expressionism. She was a member of the "second generation" of the Bay Area Figurative Movement – a group composed of other beat culture artists like David Park, Richard Diebenkorn and Henry Villierme. Her first museum show was at the Whitney (wow) when she was 22 (wowow). Her work is funky, figurative and colorful, and I could look at it all day long.
A Song I Like

Don't sleep on the new Aminé album. It's a hit. I really like Aminé's flow and creativity, and I'm looking forward to the music videos to come. 'Til then, check out the DAPPERDAN featuring G. Herbo. This track is especially good to listen to when you hit that afternoon slump and need to push through.
Where did the music teacher leave her keys? In the piano.

Super beachy vibes from Bikini Trill on this track, "Smoke a Jay and Watch Yourself Dance." Bookmark it for a Saturday morning and add to beach/pool playlists.
From a Friend
My friend Brent is really smart. I like to hang out with him because I always feel like I learn a lot. One thing I learned this weekend was that Weeds is a really dope podcast to stay informed on US policy. Check it out. (And while you're at it, register to vote if you haven't. November is closer than you think.)
One Last Thing
Oil paint is my favorite medium. It's beautiful, rich in color and texture. And it only makes sense that the process of making oil paint is also very beautiful. Check out this mesmerizing video about how Gamblin Artists Oil Colors in Portland is made
